Good morning: The number of people in employment in Britain has fallen by the largest amount since the aftermath of the financial crisis more than a decade ago, according to official figures. The number of employees on payrolls in the UK fell by about 730,000 between March and July, according to Office for National Statistics and HMRC data. This includes a drop in the second quarter of 2020 — April, May and June — of 220,000 compared with the previous quarter, the largest quarterly decrease in employment since 2009. The ONS’s labour market figures, published this morning, show that the unemployment rate remains at 3.9 per cent.
