It was thought complete removal of chlorine in Christchurch water could happen by the end of last year, now it’s the end of this year. GEORGE HEARD/STUFF Christchurch City Council chief executive Karleen Edwards has apologised after a review into the chlorination of the city's water supply failure. The assessor holds the power over whether to sign off on the water safety plan. Suburbs including Avonhead, Burnside, Harewood, Northwood and Belfast – which already have pockets of unchlorinated water – will have chlorine removed completely if the new water safety plan is signed off. The ministry will soon transfer its powers regarding drinking water to a new national water regulator, which is still being established.
