Greenberg, as giving with his time and fundraising efforts as anyone could be, passed away at age 89 last Saturday. Mort Greenberg was many things — an opera lover, a former CBC camera operator and a hockey nut. Back in the mid to late 1980s, when Harold Ballard owned the Toronto Marlies juniors, Greenberg was a constant presence behind the bench. When he would go to London or Vienna in the 1950s to attend the opera, he’d sometimes do so on three dollars a day, nephew Sheldon Ehrenworth said. Not many people I knew could find their way around both La Scala and any arena, but Mort could.
