Biden says Colonial Pipeline is nearing ‘full operational capacity,’ and doesn’t rule out a counterattack.

“They should be reaching full operational capacity as we speak, as I speak to you right now,” Mr. Biden said in remarks from the Roosevelt Room. But we want to be clear, we will not feel the effects at the pump immediately. This is not like flicking on a light switch.”The president said he had “no comment” on reports that Colonial Pipeline had paid a $5 million ransom to a group of hackers based in Russia to restore operations on the 5,500-mile pipeline. But he said the United States will pursue “a measure to disrupt their ability to operate” against Darkside, the group behind the Colonial hack. Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary, later said that it is the “position of the federal government” that it is not in the interests of “companies to pay ransom, because it incentivizes these actions.”
