Gateshead Council has received an application to extend the use of a temporary car park currently used by the tenants of Baltic Place, South Shore Road. According to documents submitted by the applicant, South Shore Developments Ltd (SSDL), the car park has been in place since 2013 to mitigate a lack of parking. SSDL, which also owns the 131,000sq ft Baltic Place, states despite the block’s occupancy rate of just 47%, and comparatively low rents as compared to sites north of the Tyne, £2m of upgrades are underway with further investments planned. SSDL states within planning documents: “The proposed extension of the temporary parking use therefore represents a pragmatic and economically sensible interim measure.
