SAMUT PRAKAN - A fire that engulfed a drainage pipe attached to a pillar of the Bhumibol Bridge and terrified local witnesses on Thursday night was caused by a group of 11-year-old boys who had been playing with firecrackers under the bridge, police said. The flames climbed about 50 metres up an HDPE drainage pipe attached to a foundation pillar, shocking people watching from both river banks. They had been playing with firecrackers under the bridge when sparks ignited trash and dry leaves near the pipe, with strong winds causing the flames to spread. Police summoned the children and their parents to the Samrong Tai station for legal action under child welfare procedures.
