The workers have left the road after receiving payment, police sayWorkers of the Beximco Industrial Park have demonstrated again by blocking roads in Gazipur, demanding payment of overdue salaries. Subir Kumar Saha, assistant commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, told bdnews24.com: "The workers left the road around 7:15pm. Since then, money has started coming into their accounts.”Previously, the workers had staged protests by blocking the highway for seven consecutive days demanding a month’s unpaid salary. Kashimpur police chief Saiful Islam said nearly half of the 40,000 workers of the Beximco Group factory have received their October payment. The remaining unpaid workers, mostly from garment factories, staged the protest, he added.
