Bernie Sanders praised the "incredible courage" of Muhammad Ali not just as a boxer, but for taking a stand against the Vietnam War at the expense of a key moment in his career. Ali did not mention Trump in the statement, but it came just after Trump proposed banning Muslims from entering the United States. "Ali stood up and said 'I am opposed to the war in Vietnam, and I am not going to fight in that war.' Sanders, appearing at a press conference in downtown Los Angeles, called himself "a bit of a boxing fan," and Ali "the most popular athlete in the modern history of the world." True Muslims know or should know that it goes against our religion to try and force Islam on anybody."
