Mirror drive: Berkeley women were asked to donate unused “purse and pocket book mirrors” in a June 8 article. Enemies near: There were German soldiers very close to the shores of Berkeley, the Gazette reported June 10. Steven Finacom is a Bay Area native and community historian in Berkeley.
