Benefit claimants owed up to £13,000 in back-payments after being 'wrongly' assessed

Vulnerable people living with mobility issues could be owed up to £13,000 in back payments, after a court ruling found a significant number may have been underpaid. In July 2019, a PIP claimant - a 47-year-old man known only as MM - took the DWP to court over the way in which his claim was assessed. Independent advice website Benefits and Work said: "The DWP has announced that it is beginning a review of PIP claimants to identify those who are owed up to £13,000, because it got the law wrong. If you need prompting, you get two points, and if you need social support, you get four. Likewise, some people were wrongly awarded zero instead of four because the social support occurred weeks after the assessment.
