Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor revealed he was trying to get England Test skipper Ben Stokes to play cricket for his country of birth. In his recently published autobiography, “Ross Taylor Black & White”, Taylor talked about his idea of having Stokes play for New Zealand while playing for England’s county of Durham in 2010. Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, Stokes moved to England at the age of 12 when his father, former professional rugby player, Gerard Stokes, got a professional coaching job in Cumbria. Stokes made his ODI debut in England in 2011, aged 20, playing his first Test at the 2013 Ashes series in Australia. Coincidentally, Stokes won the 2019 ODI World Cup final for England against New Zealand in a thrilling final at Lord’s where the hosts won via Super Over.
