Beloved NYC Restaurant Isabella's Closes, Taking An Era Of City Dining With It


Isabella's, a beloved mainstay of Upper West Side dining, has suddenly shut down. The elegant casual restaurant on Columbus Avenue near the American Museum of Natural History opened 30 years ago, and was among the first to herald the gentrification of the Upper West Side. The sign directed passersby to try another restaurant in the BR Guest Hospitality Group, including the Blue Water Grill, Blue Fin or Dos Caminos. When BR Guest was sold late last year, a spokesman said that there were no plans to close any of its restaurants. But on Monday, BR Guest told the West Side Rag that Isabella's lease was up for renewal, and its landlord decided not to renew.
