When the revitalized Joseph Burr Tyrrell park and playground opened in early December following seven months of construction, a new musical feature — eight colourful bells tuned to the notes of an octave — became a hit with kids in the Annex. But when they returned the following week, the bells were gone — wrapped in a tarp and yellow caution tape. Parents like Louis are now asking why the city would remove a play feature loved by local children. The feature was not requested during community consultations and was not included in construction documents for the playground, city staff say. The park redesign, which began in January 2020, includes a new playground, plants and other park features.
