Haye, who suffered an ankle injury that left him limping for several rounds, was stopped in the 11th round. His ankle was damaged and he seemed hardly able to throw his fearsome right hand, but he took the fight to Bellew when retirement seemed the only sensible course. Bellew had already proved a point by denying Haye an early victory. He outboxed Haye over the early rounds, failed to take full advantage when his opponent was hurt, but finally triumphed when both men appeared exhausted.
