Belknap County Delegation wants more money from Gunstock


By ROGER AMSDEN, LACONIA DAILY SUNLACONIA — The Belknap County Delegation voted, 8-7, Tuesday to seek what many legislators believe will amount to a larger share of the revenues realized from the operations of the county-owned Gunstock Mountain Resort recreation area. The action invokes a provision of the 1959 legislation that established the Gunstock Area Commission as an independent body with control of the operations of the area. He was supported by Rep. Ray Howard (R-Alton) and Rep. Marc Abear, two of the sponsors of a bill that would have given the county delegation control of the bottom line of Gunstock’s budget. That bill was termed inexpedient to legislate by a unanimous vote of the House Municipal and County Government Committee. Pointing to difficulties that the delegation has had in adopting a budget, Fields said, “We can’t even run our own county.
