Belgium sees 1st case of minor being granted euthanasia

Liberal Senator Jean-Jacques De Gucht confirmed the death of the sick juvenile to The Associated Press Saturday. Belgium is the only country that allows minors of any age assistance in dying, De Gucht said. It also requires parental consent and finally the approval of two doctors, including a psychiatrist. Some have questioned whether children should be allowed to make the choice between life and death. In 2014, a group of doctors — including pediatricians — signed a group letter to voice opposition to the measure.
