Beijing's HK affairs office denounces 'demented' violent protesters as 'political virus'

China's Hong Kong affairs office condemned Hong Kong protesters as a "political virus" who seek independence, warning that the city will never be calm unless what it said were violent black-clad protesters were all removed, Reuters reports. The Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, warned that the central government will not sit idly by "with this recklessly demented force in place" and that China's greatest responsibility is in maintaining order and safeguarding national security. A statement said the violence from protesters and their "if we burn, you burn with us" mentality is a "political virus" in Hong Kong society, RTHK reports. It also said that as the Covid-19 situation in Hong Kong has eased, protesters are now eager to make their next move. "The purpose and intentions of the tyrannical forces, their behind-the-scenes commanders, organisers, and instigators are obvious, they want to drag Hong Kong off a cliff," it reads.
