Beer sales project to raise funds for Indigenous women's organizations creates controversy for organizers


Co-ordinators of a beer sales initiative to support organizations that work with Indigenous women say they weren't smudging beer but rather smudging people as they launched the project. Last weekend, Great Lakes Brewery in Toronto helped launch an event called Celebrating Sisters Indigenous Brew Day, an initiative that is donating proceeds of beer sales to Indigenous women's organizations. Great Lakes Brewery was one of 43 breweries across Canada to participate. Project organized by Indigenous Brew CrewThe Celebrating Sisters Indigenous Brew Day event was organized by a trio of brewers known as the Indigenous Brew Crew. March 28 was their second Indigenous Brew Day, with the first being held on National Indigenous Peoples Day last year.
