Beef cattle quality advances to push competition upDavid Hallett John McDrury is no stranger to the winners podium at the prime cattle competition. A top line up is expected from farmers lifting the quality of beef cattle at a pre-Canterbury A&P Show competition next month. Some of the best cattle in the region are usually uncovered at the prime cattle competition at Canterbury Agricultural Park, in Christchurch, on November 1. All entrants go to auction with the awards presented afterwards for the supreme champion, heaviest steer, best single steer and heifer and best steer and heifer pair. Awards also go to the best single steer or heifer under 500kg and best pair of steers or heifers under 500kg.
