BEARDSTOWN — Beardstown residents did not waste any time in trying to help those evacuated from their apartments Sunday as fire ripped through their second-story home at 601 E. Fourth St., ultimately destroying the entire building. Michelle Miller, secretary at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown, was at home Sunday evening when she began seeing social media posts about the fire. “I was sitting on the couch with my husband, Brian, and I said, ‘We need to do something,’” Miller said. In the meantime, Miller has set up a GoFundMe page to help them get the essentials when they have a new place to live. “Do they need a refrigerator, a microwave or a bed?” she said, adding that’s what the money from the fundraiser will help with.
