She had a trial run making the beanies before suggesting the idea to the women in January. The women, aged from 60 to 90, have limited or no vision. Knitters Trixie Parker, Helen White and Isabelle Goodare said making beanies was a lot of fun. Wool is donated or bought by the foundation and soft toys are sourced from the Hospice Shop and secondhand dealers. "One of our volunteers went on holiday up north and went round secondhand shops ... she came home with 70 [soft toys]," Robbie said.
