Dunedinites should prepare to slip, slop and slap as the city looks to be in for a warm weekend. MetService is predicting the city to reach a high temperature of 27degC on both days of the weekend, while inland parts of Otago will also be warm, Alexandra the hottest at an expected 29degC. The hottest places look to be in Canterbury, where both Ashburton and Christchurch are tipped to hit 30degC. The warm conditions are the result of a ridge lying over New Zealand extending out from a large anticyclone east of the country, Weatherwatch.co.nz says. Temperatures take a dip at the beginning of next week but should still be in the 20s for most parts of the South.
