The Aussies won the first set 21-15 before taking out the second 21-14 in their first game in Rio. Bawden and Clancy were significantly taller than their opponents and they took advantage with some consistent and versatile play at the net. The Australians played immediately after the Brazilian men's gold medal favourites Alison Cerutti and Bruno Schmidt, who attracted a rowdy crowd in their win over Canada. "We thought they (the crowd) were maybe super excited to see us," Bawden joked.
