Some trace their roots to Ireland, possibly from the town of Castlebar in County Mayo. A recent visit from IrelandIn 2000 the City of Peekskill and the Town of Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland established a “twinning or “sister” relationship at the suggestion of members of the Peekskill St. Patrick’s Committee. Now in 2024 the time has come this year to reinforce those bonds according to Sue Sheridan of the Peekskill St. Patrick’s Parade committee. Strong roots still remain to native landsWhether from Ecuador, Ireland or the dozens of other nations where Peekskill residents trace their roots, the pride and connection to ancestors remains a powerful force. “People should visit County Mayo because it’s the most beautiful part of Ireland in my opinion,” Donna Sheridan said.
