Brahmanbaria Press Club President Rashidul Islam and General Secretary Dipak Chowdhury Bappi, at an emergency meeting on Wednesday at the Press Club, said that they were in solidarity with their fellow journalists who had been abused by the madrasah authority for not covering their events and had therefore decided not to publish any madrasah-related news in future. Speakers at the meeting, including prominent journalists of the district, asked the government to ensure security for all journalists as incidents of journalist abuse were lately on the rise. Earlier on Monday, hundreds of students and teachers under Qawmi Madrasah formed a three kilometer long human chain demanding a ban on all Ahmadiyya Madrasahs in the country. After the event, the protesters alleged that journalists from the district had willfully ignored their programme and later verbally abused a few journalists over the matter.
