When CC Sabathia made his major-league debut for the Cleveland Indians in 2001, Marcus Stroman was in the middle of Grade 4. So the Yankees’ veteran lefty and the Blue Jays’ millennial right-hander may not have a whole lot in common when it comes to pop-culture reference points. But on Saturday afternoon they were each other’s equal, throwing up zero after zero for seven innings apiece until all the midday shadows had left the yard. Just as they had mirrored each other all afternoon, Sabathia and Stroman both retired after those seven scoreless innings. That’s when the Jays pounced, as Jose Bautista released the tension in a sold-out Rogers Centre with a game-winning, three-run homer in the eighth inning to lift the Jays to a 3-0 victory over New York.
