At a press conference held by the Teachers-Principal Trade Union Alliance, Senior Secretary of the Teachers Trade Union Mahinda Jayasinghe accused the government of being inconsistent when it comes to pandemic control, and further stated that the battle is still on for the demands made by teachers. Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Ceylon Teachers’ Union Joseph Stalin stated that a cabinet intervention is much needed to come to an agreement and solution. These comments were made in regard to the recent trade union action of teachers across Sri Lanka. Over 200,000 public school teachers have been holding a national online learning strike since July 12 in protest of salary anomalies and other demands.
