Battle for Sh800 million worth of poles shifts to courtThe battle for control of the multi-billion electricity poles business has shifted to the courts with a judge stopping Rural Electrification Authority from disposing of Sh800 million worth of substandard treated poles it had procured. The petitioner says all the poles had passed REA tests but failed the third one after the petitioner protested. For instance, of all the 7,649 ten metre poles received in Mariakani’s REA stores since July 1, 2018, REA has rejected none. For the 16,723 poles delivered over the same period in Makuyu stores, REA rejected 90 of them upon inspection. “Despite having the necessary instruments for inspections, REA stores are infiltrated by quacks cum inspectors who are not accredited, they care less about specifications, safety and standards.
