A new study from Free University of Berlin suggests bats use baby talk, too. Previous research suggests baby sac-winged bats start babbling after about two weeks. Mother bats would often talk to the pups in “baby talk” when the pups were babbling, said Fernandez. This is not the first piece of evidence for something like baby talk in the animal kingdom. Discovering that behaviors like baby talk aren’t uniquely human helps us have a better understanding of and more respect for other species, she said.
