Inspector M.C. Sharma, who headed the operation, was killed in the encounter along with two suspected terrorists — Atif Ahmed and Mohammad Sajjid. Flat owner Mohsin Nissar had accused Rehman of forging his signature in the lease deed while renting out the flat to the two suspected terrorists.
