CAUAYAN CITY: Itbayat Mayor Raul de Sagon of Batanes passed away at the age of 59 on Tuesday, his relatives said. An independent candidate who won for mayor in 2019, De Sagon is survived by his wife Geg and son Clarence. Netizens expressed their condolences to the family of the mayor whom they described as a “diligent leader”. Itbayat is a 5th class municipality in Batanes island-province with 2,867 people based on the 2015 census. It is the country’s northernmost municipality, located 156 kilometers (97 mi) from the southernmost tip of Taiwan.
