Share TweetBy Charissa Luci-AtienzaThe vice chairman of the House Committee on Public Order and Safety is proposing a Basic Citizenship Service Course for senior high school students. “I want a Basic Citizenship Service Course that is mandatory across all the different tracks of senior high school. Tupas, a former Philippine Military Academy cadet, said the modules in his proposed citizenship service course would include disaster preparedness and response, swimming, first aid, rescue skills, and even mountaineering. He asked the Department of Education (DepEd) “to develop an Armed Services Track (AST) in senior high in much the same way that there exists now a Maritime Education track in senior high school.”He said senior high students who want to pursue armed services careers in college can opt for the Armed Services Track (AST) which would include the Basic Citizenship Course in Grade 11 plus several other subjects.
