Bashagha: I discussed efforts to hold elections with US officials

Prime Minister-designate of the east-based House of Representatives, Fathi Bashagha, said on Wednesday that he discussed the electoral process in Libya with senior officials in Washington. "Today, I contacted senior officials in Washington, and we discussed efforts to conduct timely, fair, and transparent elections to uplift the economy, establish security and achieve political stability," Bashagha wrote on Twitter early on Wednesday. He said Libya needs to cooperate with its international allies to move towards a better future. On Mars 3, the House of Representatives based in Tobruk swore in a new authority headed by Fathi Bashagha in a challenge to the existing Government of National Unity (GNU). The incumbent Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah refused the step and vowed that he would only hand power to an elected government.
