Bartolo Colon, the 42-year-old folk hero pitcher for the New York Mets, hit a home run. Colon is the oldest player in MLB history to hit his first career home run, breaking the record of 40-year-old Randy Johnson, also a pitcher, in 2003. With catcher Kevin Plawecki on second base and with two outs in the top of the second inning, Shields threw Colon three straight fastballs. In his 19th season in the major leagues, and in his 247th career plate appearance, Colon clocked a two-run home run against San Diego Padres pitcher James Shields, sending the his teammates, fans and the entire Internet into a frenzy.
