In view of the gravity of the situation arising from the contamination of Ganga water near the town of Monghyr, the Union Government has directed the Barauni Refinery to shut down for the time being. This was stated in the Lok Sabha to-day [March 8, New Delhi] by Mr. K. Raghuramiah, Minister of State for Petroleum, while replying to a barrage of questions on the contamination which reportedly caused the death of six persons in Monghyr.
