Banks refute Rehda’s home loan claims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) has come out to “strongly refute” claims that homebuyers are finding it harder to obtain a housing loan. “The overall housing loan approval rates remained high at 73% of the applications in the second quarter of 2017,” it said. ABM also said 72% of housing loan borrowers are first-time home owners under the affordable home category. The association also rubbished Rehda’s allegation that the loan approval time among its 27 member banks “is increasing”. As for failed loan applicants, ABM said its member banks will inform the status of their application within one to two working days.
