Bank closures 'deplorable'

The decision by Bank of Ireland to close its branches in Ballymote (above) and Tubbercury was widely criticised by councillors at Monday’s council meeting. Last month, the bank announced its intention to shut 103 branches in September of this year across the island. Cllr Mulvey said he had already written to the CEO and had yet to receive a response. Cllr Gerard Mullaney told the meeting that the actions of Bank of Ireland were 'nothing short of deplorable'. If the Bank of Ireland ATM was not maintained, he contended, it would have a negative impact on business in the area.
