Bank branch closed - News Summed Up

Bank branch closed

Photo: Peter McIntoshThe ANZ bank has closed one of two branches it had on corners of the intersection of George and Hanover Sts in Dunedin. One had been a National Bank, but had been rebranded ANZ since 2013. The only message on the papered-over windows of the large commercial property was that it had moved across the road. The ANZ Banking Group bought the National Bank from Britain's Lloyds TSB in 2003 for almost $A5billion [$NZ5.29billion], then in late 2012 started phasing out the National Bank brand, over the following two years. In September last year the ANZ proposed closing five rural branches, including that in Milton, south of Dunedin, while at the same time Westpac confirmed 19 closures, including Fairlie, Ranfurly and Te Anau.
