Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus caused a furore of sorts with his pitch for the “extension of the Chinese economy” into South Asia. In fact, Yunus has sought a “master plan” for river management from China, which he thinks is the best in the field. Despite China’s push for normalising relations with India, Beijing would not mind a bigger-than-before presence in Bangladesh. For Yunus, the demonstrated bonhomie with China is a message for Delhi and Washington, DC: one of having options.
