Bangladeshi expat sets up Uber alternative in Switzerland

A political asylum seeker-turned-naturalised Swiss citizen turned his life around after launching a ride-sharing service in Zurich that aims to rival Uber and conventional taxi companies. Zahangir Alam, 37, said he fled Bangladesh after being hunted by political rivals in 2001, and 16 years later, he wants to compete with giants like Uber with his app “Your-Taxi” driving services. After couple of brief stints as dish washer and sous chef, Zahangir became a cabbie in Zurich. Zahangir employs 70 drivers and operates a fleet of vehicles in the budget, business and comfort classes. His drivers pay him 10% commission on their earnings but no additional fees.
