“The Shawwal moon has not been sighted anywhere in the country. So Ramadan is ending with 30 days this year,” State Minister for Religious Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah told journalists after the meeting. It took about one and a half hours for the committee to review reports from 64 districts, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization or SPARRSO. Muslims in Bangladesh also started fasting a day after the Ramadan began in the Middle East. But unlike the Arab nations, Muslims in Bangladesh are fasting for 30 days this year as the committee says Shawwal moon is unsighted.
