The long-awaited project of the Chittagong Port, construction of a breakwater and channel dredging work at the proposed Bay Terminal, may start soon after Bangladesh Government decided to appoint a consultant for the same. This was maintained by media reports, which claimed the Government is planning to appoint a German joint venture in this regard even as they added The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase has recently approved the Chittagong Port Authority’s proposal to appoint a joint venture of Sellhorn, WSP, KS and Aqua, Germany, as the consultant for the channel dredging and breakwater construction works of the Bay Terminal Construction Project. According to reports, once the terminal is operational, it will enable Chittagong Port to operate round-the-clock vessel movement, while adding the terminal is being constructed on around 2,500 acres of land and will have a length of 6.15 kilometres, stretching from the backside of the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) to Rasmonighat on the Halishahar coast of the Bay of Bengal.
