Asked about the post, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, deputy press secretary to the chief advisor, said: “The advisors’ cabinet recently made the decision to cancel those eight national days. The Cabinet Division will soon issue a notice scrapping those eight national days.”Five of these cancelled days are connected to the births and deaths of Sheikh Hasina’s family. The three others cancelled are the commemoration of Bangabandhu’s historic Mar 7 speech, National Constitution Day on Nov 4, and Smart Bangladesh Day on Dec 12. Of these national days, Bangabandhu’s birth and death days on Mar 17 and Aug 15 were public holidays.
