The United States has provided the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) to Bangladesh Police as part of cooperation between the two countries and to enhance identification capability at their DNA laboratory. She said this technology, combined with local expertise, can be a major factor in the improvement of the criminal justice system in Bangladesh. The public must be educated to stay clear of crime scenes and allow the police to process an uncontaminated crime scene, she said. “The police must take more proactive steps to protect the integrity of crime scenes. Bernicat said media can help by educating the public of importance of remaining outside the marked parameters of crime scenes until the scene is examined.
