The Navy on Thursday handed over eight boats out of 60 multipurpose accessible rescue boats under construction to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on behalf of Narayanganj Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited ISPRThe 54-foot long boats can carry 80 persons and run at a speed of 7 knotsA gallant handing over ceremony was held at the Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd (DEWL) of Bangladesh Navy in Narayanganj on Thursday for the successful delivery of eight multipurpose accessible rescue boats built for the Department of Disaster Management (DDM). The contract was signed between the two government bodies on July 21 last year for the construction and delivery of 60 multipurpose accessible rescue boats within 3 years. State Minister for the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Dr Md Enamur Rahman MP, and senior officials of the ministry and the DEWL were present at the event. The DEWL has set a milestone in constructing such kinds of special boats under its own management, officials say. Later, it was handed over to the Bangladesh Navy and has since been progressing quite significantly.
