Bangladesh Can Go Big On Rooftop Solar: SpeakersSpeakers at a webinar today (14 March 2024) echoed the ever-increasing importance of rooftop solar expansion in Bangladesh. While the year 2023 has been prolific in terms of rooftop solar capacity expansion, the sector confronts several challenges. He further mentioned that the central banks refinancing scheme is the cheapest source of funding for rooftop solar but 70 environment-friendly projects, including rooftop solar, compete for taka 400 crore which is insufficient for scaling up rooftop solar. Nurul Aktar, President of Bangladesh Solar and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA) said high import duties and low awareness affect rooftop solar implementation. It is also crucial to note that cost of solar technology continues to come down and the attractiveness of rooftop solar increases too.
