Bangladesh’s first digital music copyright workshop ends

The Copyright Office’s Registrar of Copyrights Jafor Raza Chowdhury, AS Associates’ Barrister Ferdaus Rahman and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Product Architect of Imagine Radio Shahriar Shahid discussed relevant topics – such as “Introduction to digital platforms, copyright law and the future of Bangladesh’s music,” “Copyright laws, Bangladesh and digital music platforms” and “How to protect and take benefits of digital music platforms”– in the first event of its kind in Bangladesh. Singers Krishnakali Islam, Mahtim Sakib, Sina Hasan, Sovvota and Arka Sumon; music directors Jahid Bashar Pankaj, Rokan Emon and Ashish Sarker; and many other notable personalities from the music industry attended the event. Imagine Radio CEO Shahriar Shahid told the Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime: “This is the first workshop on digital music copyright laws in Bangladesh. We have a huge number of talented musicians who are distributing their music online, but they have no legal knowledge of digital copyright policies.”“We have received positive feedback from the participants of the workshop. It is just the start and we will organize more events like these in the future to keep our local musicians up to date with the digital platforms, revenue generation and copyright regulations.”
