Bangladesh has reported 2,916 new coronavirus cases, the highest daily count since Sept 3, taking the total caseload to 1,601,305. Among the eight divisions, Dhaka recorded the highest number of cases with 2,434 infections. Another 266 people recovered from the illness nationwide, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,551,653. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 96.90 per cent and the mortality rate at 1.76 per cent. Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
