Image Credit: Wikimedia CommonsDhaka: Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy , ICT Advisor to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has said that by opposing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's statue, hardline group Hifazat-e Islam is playing the role the Jamaat-e-Islami did during the 1971 Liberation War. “We have been taking Bangladesh forward to transform it into a modern, developing country,” he was quoted as saying by bdnews24. They are threatening to transform Bangladesh into Afghanistan," he said. Several political outfits have criticised the Islamist group's plan to tear down statues of Bangabandhu. An under-construction statue of Bangabandhu was defaced in Kushtia this month.
