SENATE Minority Leader Franklin Drilon on Sunday urged President Rodrigo Duterte to ban political dynasties to put an end to the “real oligarchy” in the country. In a recent online media forum, the senator stressed that political dynasties were the real oligarchs that should be dismantled. The lack of an anti-dynasty system or provision in our system allows oligarchy to continue,” said Drilon. Pangilinan filed Senate Bill 264 in July 2019 defining and prohibiting political dynasties. “Three decades later and despite numerous attempts to enact such legislation, there is still no enabling law prohibiting political dynasties in the country,” Pangilinan lamented.
